About Candace Pratt and Icings Glass
Candace began a second career in architectural kilnformed glass art in 2000 after 25 years in new product marketing in Fortune 500 companies. She is the proprietor of Icings® working with architects and designers to create custom vessel sinks, tile, lighting pendants and sconces and countertops.
After twenty years in corporate marketing and sales, I started a second career to fulfill my passion for fusing glass. In the late '90's I spent our savings and invested in kilns, sandblasters, grinding and polishing equipment and starting cutting glass. My work is primarily architectural fused glass, including vessel sinks, lighting sconces and pendants, countertop slabs and tile. Teaming with interior designer and architects, I create glass art to fulfill the architectural dreams of our clients that I hope is viewed as the icing on the cake. My background was formed by attending the following schools and workshops over the years:
Functional Glass Art
Architectural Glass Art is a Team Effort
Functional art glass projects often require a team representing many disciplines. As designers define a new project and the full scope of the idea emerges, a team is assembled to carry out the specific elements of the project. Team members may include a metal artist to craft a pedestal for a glass vessel sink or to construct unique corbels for glass shelves. A UL-lighting designer will be part of the team for custom sconces and pendant fixtures. Water jet cutting is performed by a local business to cut a specific shape for a slab or cut a hole for a sink. As the final step prior to installation, the polishing and beveling of glass edges is done locally in Portland by a true craftsman.
Portland's Unique Leadership in Glass Manufacturing
With the two main fused glass manufacturers located here in Portland, clients have access to the complete sheet glass and accessory glass product lines for the latest colors, textures and styles. Once the glass is selected, your functional art project can be transformed from an idea to a residential or commercial showpiece. Describe your architectural project to us and let's discuss how to make your ideas a reality.
